Importance of Trees in Our Life

Trees are one of the most precious gifts of nature. They are very important for the existence of human beings. We cannot think of our life without trees.

Environment: Trees give us oxygen, which we need to breathe. They take in carbon dioxide, so they keep the air clean. They also keep the environment cool by providing shade, and they bring rainfall.

Food and wood: Trees give us fruits, vegetables, and many other foods. We get timber from trees to make furniture, houses and boats. Many trees are also used as fuel and as raw materials for paper and medicine.

Protection from disasters: The roots of trees hold the soil and protect it from erosion. Trees also protect us from floods and cyclones. The mangrove forest of the Sundarbans saves the coastal areas of Bangladesh from storms.

Livelihood and beauty: Many people earn their living from forests and timber. Trees make the country beautiful and are the home of birds and animals.

Despite all these benefits, trees are being cut down indiscriminately, which causes serious damage to nature. So, we should plant more trees and should not cut them down without need. Every year we observe tree plantation week in Bangladesh. Let us all plant trees and save our environment for the future.
