Deforestation

Deforestation means cutting down trees on a large scale and clearing forests for other uses. It is a serious problem in Bangladesh. People cut trees to get timber and fuel, to build houses and factories, and to make land for farming. As a result, the forest area of our country is shrinking every year. Deforestation upsets the balance of nature. It increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the air and raises the temperature of the earth. Rainfall decreases, and the land becomes dry. Without roots to hold the soil, floods and soil erosion become common, and many birds and animals lose their homes. To stop deforestation, we must stop cutting trees without need, and make strict laws against illegal logging. We should plant more trees, especially during the Tree Plantation Week, and make people aware of the value of forests. If we protect our forests today, we shall be able to protect our environment for the future.
