A Rainy Day

A rainy day is one of the most refreshing days of the year. Last Saturday, the sky was covered with dark clouds from early morning, and soon it began to pour heavily. The sound of falling rain filled the air, and a cool breeze brought great relief after the long, hot days of summer. The streets became wet and muddy, and in some places water stood on the roads. Many people stayed at home, while those who had to go out carried umbrellas or wore raincoats. Children were very happy; some of them played in the rain and floated paper boats in the water. Farmers also smiled, because the rain was good for their crops. However, the day was hard for rickshaw-pullers, day labourers and street vendors, who could not earn their daily bread. In the evening, I enjoyed a cup of hot tea and some fried snacks with my family. Though a rainy day causes some trouble, it is surely a gift of nature that cleans the air and makes the earth green and fresh.
