উত্তর ও ব্যাখ্যা

A Day Labourer

A day labourer is a person who works for daily wages. He has no permanent job and no fixed income. Every morning he goes to a labour market or a busy crossing with his tools and waits for someone to hire him. If he finds work, he earns enough to feed his family for that day. If he does not, he and his family often have to go without food.

A day labourer does hard physical work. He may carry bricks, dig earth, load and unload trucks, break stones or build houses. He works in the scorching sun, in the rain and in the cold, from morning till evening. For this heavy work he gets a very small wage, usually between four and eight hundred taka a day. This amount is hardly enough to meet the basic needs of a family.

A day labourer lives in a rented shack or a slum. His children seldom go to school because he cannot afford the cost of education. He cannot save money, so a sudden illness or an accident pushes the whole family into crisis. He has no health care, no insurance and no holiday.

Still, he is honest and hard-working. Our roads, buildings, factories and bridges are built by his hands. We should treat day labourers with respect and pay them fair wages on time. The government and the well-off people should also take steps to ensure their food, health care and education so that they can live with dignity.
