Robert Bruce was the king of Scotland. His army was defeated again and again against King Edward I of England. Being defeated six times, he lost his hope. He left his army and hid in a dark cave in the mountains. He felt very sad and thought that he would never be able to free his country. One day he saw a spider trying to climb up to its web hanging from the roof of the cave. The spider fell down six times, but it did not give up. At the seventh attempt, it reached its web successfully. Bruce was deeply moved by the sight. He told himself that he too should try once more. He came out of the cave, gathered his soldiers and attacked the English army again. This time he won a great victory and freed Scotland. Thus he learnt that perseverance is the key to success. The moral of the story is: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
