The Life of a Rickshaw Puller

A rickshaw puller is a very familiar figure in our country. He plays a great role in our communication system. In cities and towns, millions of people travel short distances by rickshaw. Most rickshaw pullers come from poor families in villages and move to the city in search of work. They pull rickshaws from early morning till late at night in the sun, the rain and the cold. Yet they earn only a small amount, and a large part of it goes to the garage owner as rent. With the rest, they can hardly feed their family. Many of them live in slums or small rented rooms and cannot send their children to school. They have no medical facilities, and they often fall ill from hard labour. Thus, a rickshaw puller leads a miserable life for financial problems. We should treat them with respect, pay them fair fares and help them to live a better life.
