(3) How to Stop Animal Cruelty

Animal cruelty, such as beating stray dogs, overloading cattle or keeping birds in tiny cages, is a serious moral and social problem, but it can be stopped through joint effort. First, strict laws must exist and be enforced; cruel owners should be fined or punished, and the Animal Welfare Act should be widely known. Second, awareness must be created through schools, media and social media so that people learn that animals feel pain and have the right to live safely. Third, shelters and veterinary clinics should be built to care for stray, sick and injured animals, and vaccination and sterilisation programmes can reduce the number of strays humanely. Fourth, the public should report cases of cruelty to the authorities and animal welfare groups. Finally, people should adopt pets responsibly instead of abandoning them. If everyone shows kindness and respect to animals, cruelty can be reduced greatly and our society will become more humane.
