(৪) July Student Movement 2024 and My Expectations

The July student movement of 2024 began as a protest by students against the quota system in government jobs. It soon turned into a mass movement against discrimination and injustice. Students from schools, colleges and universities, along with people from all walks of life, joined the movement in July and early August 2024. Many students and ordinary citizens lost their lives, and a large number were injured during the unrest. The movement ended with the fall of the government on 5 August 2024. It showed that the young generation can bring great change when they stand united for justice.

My expectations from this movement are that the sacrifice of the martyrs will not go in vain. I expect a Bangladesh free from discrimination, corruption and injustice, where merit, human rights and freedom of speech are respected. I hope the state institutions will be reformed, elections will be free and fair, and every citizen will get equal opportunity. Above all, I wish that the unity and patriotism shown by our youth will continue to build a democratic and prosperous country.
