The Life of a Farmer

A farmer is a person who grows crops and raises animals for a living. Farmers are the backbone of our country because Bangladesh is mainly an agricultural land. A farmer's life is full of hardship and simplicity. He gets up very early in the morning, takes a little simple food and goes to the field with his plough and bullocks. He works under the burning sun and in the heavy rain to plough the land, sow seeds, weed the crops and irrigate the fields. In the harvesting season he cuts the ripe paddy and brings it home with great joy. His wife and children also help him in many ways. A farmer usually lives in a small hut with a thatched or tin roof, and he has very few comforts. Many farmers are poor and illiterate, and they often have to borrow money from moneylenders to buy seeds and fertilizer. Floods, droughts and cyclones sometimes destroy their crops and make their life harder. Still, they are honest, hardworking and kind-hearted. They feed the whole nation but often remain half-fed themselves. So, we should respect them and take proper steps to improve their standard of living.
