Load Shedding

Load shedding means the interruption of the supply of electricity to certain areas for some time. It has become a part of our daily life in Bangladesh. The main cause of load shedding is the gap between the demand and the supply of electricity. The demand is increasing every day with the growth of population, industries and the use of electrical devices, but the production is not increasing at the same rate. Shortage of fuel such as gas and coal, old and damaged power plants, and system loss and wastage of power are also responsible for it. Load shedding paralyses our way of life in many ways. Students cannot study properly in the evening, and their results suffer. Factories and mills cannot run at full capacity, so production falls and many workers lose their income. Shopkeepers, doctors and the people of the service sector face great trouble, and the patients in hospitals suffer much. In summer, people feel very uncomfortable without fans, and in the villages, irrigation of the fields is hampered. Moreover, the cost of living goes up because of lower production. To solve the problem, the government should build new power plants and make the best use of solar and other renewable energy. It should also reduce the system loss and ensure the proper use of power. We, the common people, must save electricity by switching off unnecessary lights and fans. If all of us work together, we can overcome this crisis.
