The Importance of Reading Newspaper

A newspaper is a daily or weekly publication that carries news and views. In this age of information, reading a newspaper is as important as eating food is for the body.

Knowing the World: A newspaper tells us about the events of our country and the world. We learn about politics, the economy, sports, science and culture in a short time. A person who does not read newspapers lives in a small world of his own.

Educational Value: Newspapers are very useful for students. They enrich our vocabulary, improve our reading and writing skills, and widen our general knowledge. Editorials, special articles and supplements teach us how to think and how to express opinions clearly. Many questions in competitive examinations come from current affairs.

Role in Society: Newspapers work as the watchdog of society. They expose corruption and injustice and carry the demands of the people to those in power. They also help to build public opinion and strengthen democracy.

Other Benefits: The classified column gives information about jobs, admission, tenders and sale of goods. The sports page and the magazine page give healthy entertainment, and the weather report and market report help us in daily life.

Cautions: We should read reliable newspapers and avoid rumours and yellow journalism, which can mislead people.

Conclusion: A newspaper is a faithful friend and teacher. It keeps us aware and wise. So we should make it a habit to read a newspaper every day.
