A Book Fair

A book fair is an exhibition where books of different publishers are displayed and sold. In Bangladesh, the biggest book fair, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, is held every year in February on the premises of the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. It is arranged to pay homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952. Hundreds of stalls are set up by publishers, and books on literature, science, history, religion and children's stories are sold at special discounts. Writers, poets and readers gather there in large numbers. Many cultural programmes and discussions are also held during the fair. Students and book lovers spend hours walking from stall to stall and buy their favourite books. A book fair encourages the habit of reading, helps new writers to be known and promotes our national culture. So, it is a great festival of books and knowledge for all of us.
