Importance of Reading Newspaper

A newspaper is a printed publication that brings us the news of the world every day. In the modern age, reading a newspaper is a habit that no educated person can ignore.

Source of News: The most important function of a newspaper is to inform us. It tells us what is happening in our country and abroad, in politics, economy, sports, culture and many other fields. Without it, we would remain ignorant of the world around us.

Source of Knowledge: A newspaper is also a store of knowledge. It publishes articles, editorials, features and reports on science, health, education and history. Students gain general knowledge and improve their language skills by reading it regularly. It is especially helpful for those who are preparing for competitive examinations.

Shaping Public Opinion: Newspapers play a vital role in building public opinion. They expose corruption, injustice and social evils, and they raise the voice of the common people before the government. In this way they work for democracy and good governance.

Entertainment and Business: Newspapers give us entertainment through cartoons, stories, puzzles and sports pages. Classified advertisements help people to find jobs, buy and sell goods, and look for suitable partners. Traders and businessmen also depend on market reports.

Conclusion: A newspaper is a window to the world. It keeps us informed, educated and alert. So everyone, especially students, should develop the habit of reading a newspaper every day.
