Title: The Justice of a Sultan

Giasuddin Azam Shah was a great ruler of Bengal. He was fond of hunting. One day, he went a hunting at a nearby jungle. He aimed at a fawn but the arrow missed its target and struck a small boy who was playing near the bushes. The boy fell down and died on the spot. The Sultan was shocked and stood still for a moment. He did not know that anyone was there. The boy's mother was a poor widow, and she burst into tears when she saw her only son lying dead. She did not stay silent, but went straight to the court of the Qazi to seek justice. The Qazi, Siraj Uddin, was in a dilemma, because the accused was the Sultan himself. However, he was an honest man and sent a summons to the Sultan. The Sultan came to the court like an ordinary man and stood before the Qazi. After hearing both sides, the Qazi declared that the Sultan must pay compensation to the widow. The Sultan accepted the verdict without any objection and paid the compensation. The widow forgave him and went away with a satisfied heart. The Sultan then said that he was happy to have such a just Qazi in his kingdom. From that day on, people remembered him as a fair-minded ruler who respected the law even above his own position.
