Deforestation

Deforestation means the clearing or cutting down of forests on a large scale. It has become a serious problem in Bangladesh and in many other countries. People cut down trees to get timber and fuelwood, and to make room for farmland, houses, roads and industries. Illegal tree felling and the greed of timber traders also destroy forests every year. Deforestation causes serious harm to the environment. It upsets the balance of nature, reduces rainfall and increases the temperature of the earth. Without trees, soil erosion, floods and landslides become more common, and many birds and animals lose their homes. Moreover, fewer trees mean less oxygen and more carbon dioxide in the air, which speeds up global warming. To stop deforestation, we must make and enforce strict laws against illegal logging. We should also plant more trees, create public awareness and use alternative sources of fuel. If we protect our forests today, our future generations will live in a safe and green world.
