The Life of a Farmer

A farmer is the backbone of our agro-based economy. He grows rice, wheat, jute, vegetables and other crops that feed the whole nation. His life is simple but extremely hard.

A farmer gets up very early in the morning, before the sun rises. After a light breakfast he goes to the field with his plough and oxen. He ploughs the land, sows seeds, waters the plants and removes weeds. He works under the burning sun and in heavy rain from dawn to dusk. At noon he takes a short rest under a tree and eats simple food of rice, lentils and vegetables brought by his wife or children.

A farmer's life is full of uncertainty. Floods, droughts and pests often destroy his crops. Sometimes he does not get a fair price for his produce because of middlemen. He lives in a small house made of mud and tin, and he cannot always afford good education and treatment for his family.

In spite of all these hardships, a farmer is always cheerful. He is happy when he sees his golden crops in the field. We should respect farmers, and the government should ensure fair prices, modern tools and loans on easy terms for them. A happy farmer means a prosperous Bangladesh.
