(1) My Feelings about 16 December 1971

16 December 1971 is the most glorious day in the history of Bangladesh. On this day, after a nine-month-long Liberation War, the Pakistani occupation army surrendered to the Allied Forces of Bangladesh and India at the Ramna Race Course in Dhaka. As a result, Bangladesh emerged on the world map as an independent and sovereign country.

Whenever I think of this day, my heart is filled with pride and gratitude. Three million martyrs laid down their lives and hundreds of thousands of mothers and sisters suffered unspeakable torture so that we could breathe in a free land. Their sacrifice makes me feel both deeply sad and immensely proud.

Victory Day reminds me that freedom is not a gift but the result of struggle and sacrifice. It inspires me to love my country, to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War, and to work honestly for the development of Bangladesh. I feel that the best way to honour the martyrs is to build a Bangladesh free from hunger, corruption and injustice, the Golden Bengal of their dreams.
