(3) Students' Role in Social Work

Students are among the most energetic and idealistic members of society, so they can play a vital role in social work. First, they can take part in literacy campaigns by teaching poor children and illiterate adults in their neighbourhoods during holidays. Second, they can organise blood donation camps, since many patients die for want of timely blood, and student volunteers can also provide first aid and health awareness during floods, cyclones or epidemics. Third, they can lead tree plantation drives and clean-up programmes to protect the environment. Moreover, students can raise public awareness against social evils such as dowry, drug abuse, child marriage and corruption through rallies, posters and street plays. Their social media skills help spread such messages quickly to a wide audience. Social work also builds leadership, empathy and a sense of responsibility in students themselves. Therefore, students should combine their studies with service to others, because a nation prospers when its young people care for the community.
