(১) The word 'diaspora' comes from the Greek word 'diaspeirein', meaning 'to scatter'. Examples: The Jewish diaspora is the classic example. Likewise, Bangladeshis living in the UK, the USA and the Middle East form the Bangladeshi diaspora.

Diaspora communities often preserve their language, religion and traditions, send remittances home and play an important role in the economic and cultural life of both the host country and the homeland. Diaspora literature explores themes such as displacement, identity, nostalgia and belonging.
