A Rainy Day

A rainy day is a gloomy and cloudy day when the sky is covered with dark clouds and it rains heavily. In the rainy season, the rivers swell, the roads become muddy, and the fields and ponds are filled with water. On such a day, most people stay indoors. Farmers cannot work in the fields, and day labourers and rickshaw-pullers find it hard to earn their living. Many people enjoy hot food like khichuri with fried hilsa or eggs. Birds and animals also suffer. They hide in their nests and sheds and remain silent. The children, however, enjoy the day most. They get wet in the rain, play football in the mud and sail paper boats in the water. I spend such a day at home. I read story books, listen to the sound of the rain, enjoy tea with snacks and chat with my family. A rainy day is a mixed blessing for all.
